9 Reasons Why I Enjoyed My First Visit in Banaue

Banaue Rice Terraces has been very famous to me since I was in grade school. I remember it was always mentioned in our history class as a top tourist destination in the Philippines. Back then, I imagined seeing it on my own naked-eyes. More than 20 years later, I was able to visit the famous tourist spot in Banaue. It is really true that dreams do come true.

Banaue has a Municipal Tourism Center that caters the need of their valued tourists. Tourists are encouraged to register at the tourism office upon arrival. An environment fee of Php 20.00 per person will be collected. The collection is intended for the Eco-tourism related projects especially for the preservation of the rice terraces. They also provide tour arrangements with DOT accredited and licensed tour guides and recognized transport group in order to avoid incident tourist harassment caused by illegal activities of fixers and unlicensed guides.

The Ifugao Rice Terraces cover an area of nearly 400 square kilometers. If the walls were to placed end to end, they would reach more than half-way around the earth. Those of Banaue, Hapao and Hungduan are among the oldest in Luzon. Archaeological and historical studies indicate that it took the Ifugaos more than 2,000 years to build them. The stone-walled terraces of Ifugao  are the highest, best built and most extensive in the world.

It pays to arrived at the destination early so you can stroll different places. I was able to stroll around the town proper of Banaue. I even had the chance to cross the hanging bridge near the public market.
